Join the Guild of the Chicago Botanic Garden for a luncheon and discussion with artist Paul Lange.
Lange’s work is informed by a storyteller’s eye for beauty and form and was honed by his years as a fashion photographer with credits in publications such as Vogue, Bazaar, Mademoiselle, and the New York Times. Inspired by a playful irreverence for the expected, he is known for his sensuous lighting and for the energy and life he brings to all his portrait subjects—human, flora, and fauna.
Lange’s Big Blooms—Orchids, Trailblazers, and Visionaries is currently on display in the Krehbiel Gallery of the Chicago Botanic Garden. The exhibition features large-scale photographs of unusual orchids and is centered around the recognition of and tribute to groundbreaking women scientists. Twenty Big Blooms orchids tell the story of 20 pioneering women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from the mid-1700s to present day. Each colorful and unique orchid photograph is accompanied by a short biography about the scientist that highlights her contributions and advancements that have become the stepping stones and standards of modern science today.
Meet the artist in Krehbiel Gallery from noon to 2 p.m., Friday through Sunday, September 28 through 30.
