In his presentation, “Eastern Sierra and Great Basin Ethnobotany,” Dean Tonenna will share some of the traditional botanical knowledge that has been passed on to him through his tribe, the Kootzatukadu, Native Americans who live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Mono Lake and Yosemite, California. The people of the Kootzatukadu reside at the base of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains and have managed and relied upon Sierran and Great Basin plant resources for millennia. While times have changed, the Kootzatukadu continue to utilize natural resources in a traditional manner.
