In espalier, a woody plant is trained as a vertical trunk with horizontal branches in a single plane. This technique exemplifies the art and science of horticulture, for it is both beautiful and productive. Topics include espalier history, contemporary applications for fruit trees, and tools and supplies. You will gain experience identifying fruit spurs and leaf and shoot buds, while practicing tying supports and learning where to prune. Existing pruning knowledge is necessary. Dress for the weather, as part of the session will be conducted outdoors. The School’s CEUs=3 hours
