Think of French garden design and you immediately envision beautiful, intricate parterre gardens, uniformly shaped plants, geometric planting beds, walkways, borders or long avenue of trees or allées interspaced with large water features and garden ornaments. French garden design is a very formal, very ordered gardening style with lots of straight lines, balance, and symmetry. This type of garden style is created to impress; however, we will discuss how one can incorporate the elements and the ideas to a great effect in a domestic garden, even one that is small.
