About Michael Potts and RMI
Michael Potts is president and CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute,
a “think-and-do tank” based in Colorado, whose mission is to
drive the efficient and restorative use of resources.
Rocky Mountain Institute's innovative team of architects, scientists, and engineers partner with industry and government to create transformational breakthroughs in our major energy systems — power and industrial plants, commercial and residential buildings, vehicles and transportation systems. In its 27-year history, RMI has built an extraordinary track record of thoughtful leadership in the fields of radical energy efficiency and integration of renewable sources.
Mr. Potts leads all operations of RMI. He was an active trustee before he joined the Institute as CEO in early 2007, after more than 25 years as a growth-oriented high-technology executive. His most recent commercial position was as CEO of American Fundware, which nearly tripled in revenues during his tenure. He spent many years working internationally and served for a time as managing director of an Australian subsidiary.
In addition to his work at RMI, Mr. Potts currently serves on various commercial and nonprofit boards that align with his passion for innovation and spiritual growth.
"Reinventing Fire" is also the code-name of Rocky Mountain Insitute's strategy to speed the transition from our current fossil-fuel economy to a better world fueled by efficiency and renewable energy sources. Mr. Potts will provide concrete examples from the work of the Institute to show how buildings, transportation, electricity, and industrial processes can and must change for this critical transition to take place. He'll also provide some insights as to how our lives and work will be different in a cleaner, safer, smarter future.
