TITLE: Visitor Assistant – FILLED


PURPOSE: To create a memorable experience for visitors by offering accurate, relevant Chicago Botanic Garden information in a manner focused primarily on exceptional customer service and providing an outstanding first impression.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Adhere to Chicago Botanic Garden Customer Service guidelines and the Society rules and regulations.

2. Promote and maintain professionalism in appearance and demeanor.

3. Proactively & professionally answer questions and provide directions concerning classes, exhibits, shows and gardens both on the phone and in person.

4. Greet visitors in a friendly, attentive way and address their needs promptly.

5. Monitor visitor materials and displays in and around the Visitor Center Information Desk, Regenstein Center Information Desk and the Barbara Whitney Carr Administrative Center Information Desk. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of each area.

6. Ensure continual coverage of the desk to which you are assigned.

7. In a timely fashion, provide accurate cashiering skills including operating a computerized sales system generating ticket sales in multiple categories and values , coupon redemptions, and the balancing of sales figures for deposit.

8. Maintain information-gathering statistics, accurate cash records, and a secure cash register.

9. Develop a proficiency in Garden information & literature, resources available, and desk procedures.

10. Assist the Manager and Coordinator of Visitor Services in other areas as requested.

POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, Part Time

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Garden staff, volunteers and visitors

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This highly visible position at our Information Desks requires an individual who excels in customer relations and one who is proactive in gaining knowledge of all aspects of the Garden. Candidate enjoys interacting and has experience working with the public using his/her excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain professional behavior and multi-task in a fast paced environment a must. High school graduate. College degree appreciated.
