TITLE: Tram Tour Guide – FILLED

PURPOSE: As both driver and guide, safely transport Chicago Botanic Garden visitors, staff, and volunteers along predetermined routes, providing engaging, educational narrated tours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Transport visitors, staff and volunteers between predetermined routes, providing 35-minute narrated tram tours using Garden scripts and guidelines.

2. Exemplify Chicago Botanic Garden Customer Service guidelines.

3. Maintain professional appearance and professional conduct.

4. Monitor tram operating conditions and report needed repairs to the Visitor Services manager, coordinator, and maintenance staff.

5. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of tram — interior and exterior.

6. As an operator of a Chicago Botanic Garden touring vehicle, demonstrate both a high standard of safety for visitors and a strict adherence to Chicago Horticultural Society rules and regulations.

7. Remain knowledgeable of Garden current events, garden displays, and exhibitions, and proactively promote these to visitors.

8. Support the mission of the Chicago Botanic Garden, including research and conservation initiatives.

9. Adhere to program schedule requirements and tour itineraries.

10. Assist the manager and coordinator of Visitor Services in other areas as requested.

REPORTS TO: Manager and coordinator of Visitor Services

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Garden staff, volunteers, and visitors

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Individual must be a licensed driver insurable by the Society. Candidate must present a current driving record for consideration. Candidate must possess excellent communication and customer relations skills, as well as strong presentation abilities. Must have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and be able to endure the physical requirements of operating the touring vehicle, including assisting with the wheelchair ramp and its occupant. Day, evening, and weekend hours available. College degree and knowledge of horticulture appreciated.
