TITLE: Lake County Science First Program Supervisor

PURPOSE: The seasonal supervisor of the Science First, Lake County program will oversee the administrative aspects of delivering a middle-school science program at a Lake County forest preserve site (Greenbelt Cultural Center). The position is responsible for daily site visits in June and July for about 40 hours per week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend staff and student orientations prior to the beginning of the program to meet staff and student participants.
  1. Work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from June 17 through July 12 at the Greenbelt Cultural Center. Work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the week of July 17 to wrap up details for a final report.
  1. Administer a pretest on the first day and a post test during the final week. Grade tests and use these scores for final report.
  1. Daily duties include: greeting students and taking attendance, calling parents of absent students, overseeing delivery and distribution of lunches and two snacks per day, helping to supervise students during recesses, participating in recreational activities as appropriate, assisting with classroom activities as needed, and assisting with set up and clean up of activities.
  1. Assist with weekly field trips by: supervising students, carrying student health forms and first aid kit for the class, and supervising the distribution of lunches.

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Lake County Forest Preserve District

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Be available to attend staff orientation week of June 10 (TBD), participant orientation on June 16, and then daily from June 17 to July 12. Must have own transportation (mileage will be reimbursed); be able to lift 30 pounds, and walk on a variety of terrains for up to two hours on field trip outings. Excellent communications skills, ability to work independently, and familiarity with essential computer technology are required.
