TITLE: Lake County Science First Program Assistant

Requisition Number 134

PURPOSE: To aid in the delivery of a hands-on summer science program for students going into grades 7 to 9, which will be held at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist staff in preparing program materials for classroom, laboratory, and field trips; pass out supplies and assist in any demonstrations as needed.

  2. Help clean up program activities so that instructors can move quickly from one activity to the next, and so the room is read for the next day.

  3. Assist students to ensure successful completion of daily activities and projects.

  4. Help with lunch delivery by passing out lunches and cleaning up after lunch.

  5. Help supervise students during recesses, break after lunch, and on field trips.

REPORTS TO: Seasonal Program Supervisor for Science First Lake County from Chicago Botanic Garden

SUPERVISES: Students in the Science First program

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Lake County Forest Preserve District

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must enjoy working with kids, enjoy science, and nature, and being outside; and be able to lift 20 pounds and walk on different terrains on hot days for field trips. Must be available to work for 40 hours per week from June 17 to July 12. Knowledge of programs run by the Lake County Forest Preserve District is a plus.
