TITLE: Assistant Instructor, Science First in Lake County – FILLED
PURPOSE: To aid in the delivery of a hands-on summer science program for students going into grades
7 to 9, which will take place at the College of Lake County campus, Grayslake, IL, from June 20 through July 15, 2011.
Science First in Lake County is a free summer science-enrichment program. The goal is to increase students’ knowledge and appreciation of the environment. In Science First in Lake County, students become scientists and learn all about how scientists study the environment. Students can enroll in the four-week session that takes place at the College of Lake County in Grayslake on Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A school bus route with stops at participating schools provides transportation starting as early as 7 a.m. to bring students to the College of Lake County by 9 a.m. Students are provided with all the materials they need to participate, including free snacks and lunch every day of the program. Students leave the center at 3 p.m. each day.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
DEPARTMENT: Center for Teaching and Learning
REPORTS TO: Seasonal manager for Science First at Lake County and coordinator of secondary education programs at the Chicago Botanic Garden
SUPERVISES: Students in the Science First program
COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Lake County Forest Preserve District
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Be available to work for 40 hours/week from June 20 to
July 15, 2011. The ideal candidate will speak Spanish and have some experience with middle- or high-school aged children (tutoring, mentoring, volunteer).
