TITLE: Lake County Science First Assistant Instructor

Requisition Number 133

PURPOSE: To aid in the delivery of a hands-on summer science program for students going into grades
7 to 9, which will take place at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist Science First program instructors with set up and clean up of activity materials.

  2. Lead team-building activities and other activities as needed.

  3. Help supervise students during lunch and initiate games during recess and outdoor breaks.

  4. Help supervise students during outdoor field activities, both on campus and during field trips to other locations.

  5. Work with the Science First students to ensure successful completion of daily activities and projects.

REPORTS TO: Seasonal Manager for Science First at Lake County from the Chicago Botanic Garden

SUPERVISES: Students in the Science First program

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Lake County Forest Preserve District

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Experience working with middle or high school students in an educational or recreational setting (volunteering, mentoring, camp counselor, tutoring, etc.). Enjoyment of learning, working with kids, nature, and being outside. Available to attend orientation during the week of June 10 (TBD) and to work 40 hours per week from June 17 to July 12. Ability to lift 30 pounds and walk on a variety of terrains for up to two miles during student field trips.
