TITLE: Plant Health Care Assistant – FILLED


Purpose: Maintain weed-free beds on general grounds.

Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Remove weeds using manual techniques and herbicide sprays (limited to Round-up), under the direction of the Plant Health Care Supervisor. Maintain log of herbicide applied.

2. Report tool and equipment problems to Plant Health Care Supervisor.

3. Safely operate small equipment such as golf carts, weed whips and leaf blowers.

4. Assist with other Department maintenance operations such as fertilizing, mulching, pruning, edging beds, spraying fungicides and insecticides with Plant Health Care Specialists, aerating turf and assisting with the installation of horticultural elements for events.

Cooperative Relationships: Horticulture

Position Requirements: Must be able to identify weeds. Obtain a pesticide Operator's License through the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Requires good communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
