TITLE: Collections Specialist, Plant Collections


PURPOSE: Responsible to help build the database for the Garden’s 18 Specialized Collections.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform literature research, review current Collection holdings, determine commercial availability and nativity of taxa
2. Develop lists of new acquisitions and sources for the Specialized Collections
3. Help to evaluate more than 7,000 plants from foreign expeditions for quantity, health, and provenance-based adaptability.
4. Assist in applying for a North American Plant Collections Consortium (NAPCC) membership
5. Create and produce high quality reports.

REPORTS TO: Director, Plant Collections

SUPERVISES: Volunteers

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Horticulture, Conservation Science, Nursery Industry, Plant Societies, Horticulture Professionals, other Gardens and Arboreta

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel software. Knowledge in plants required. Detail-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.
