Environmental Science Merit Badge Workshop
Saturday, November 23, 2013
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

An optional site visit has been added. This site visit will take place Saturday, November 9, at 10 a.m. Please meet the Merit Badge Counselor in the Visitor Center lobby. 

IMPORTANT: Scouts must bring their own Blue Card with the signature of the unit leader. This Merit Badge session is open to those Scouts who have completed Tenderfoot Rank and above.

Required Items: Signed Blue Card, Environmental Science Merit Badge worksheet, water bottle, and bag lunch. The Environmental Science Merit Badge book is not required. However, it is suggested that you bring it for discussion.

  1. Register for this Merit Badge workshop directly by calling Shamra Fallon at the Chicago Botanic Garden at
    (847) 835-8239. Registration will be limited to 40 scouts on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment with credit card by phone will be accepted. $25 fee covers participation in the Merit Badge session and parking for the required two additional site visits.

  2. Site visits (requirement #4b) can be completed in advance of the November 23 workshop with Merit Badge counselor Eric Bower on Saturday, October 5, at 10 a.m. and Saturday, October 26, at 10 a.m. Both scheduled site visits will meet in the Visitor Center, just outside the Garden Shop.

    A total of three site visits, of 20 minutes each, must be completed in order to earn the Merit Badge. Your registration fee includes the cost of parking for two site visits as well as the November 23 workshop.

    Note: Scouts are encouraged to attend one or both of the scheduled site visits (October 5 and October 26) to be shown where the two plots are located. Scouts may also choose to do their own unsupervised site visits on different dates prior to the November 23 workshop.

  3. Scouts must have read the Merit Badge book and bring a downloaded copy of the Merit Badge worksheets with prerequisite work completed.
