Symposia

Symposia and conferences allow you to attend a single- or multi-day program on a specific topic ranging from stone in the landscape or plant conservation issues to horticulture therapy or youth gardening.

Participants will learn from both national and international experts and have ample time to network with gardening peers or professional colleagues. Continuing education units (CEUs) from professional associations are available for most symposia and conferences.

Click here to download brochure.Global warming has implications far beyond the temperature of the air. Our best scientific research reveals fundamental changes in the foundation of the ocean's food web, the persistence of plants and animals on land, and the spread of human disease. Come and hear nationally recognized experts discuss crucial questions that seldom reach the pages of our magazines or television screens. Speakers include Robert Corell, global change director of the Heinz Center; Brendan Mackey, professor of environmental science at the Australian National University; Henry Henderson, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council; and Martin Fowler of Elon University.

Cosponsored by the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Center for Humans and Nature, the Janet Meakin Poor Research Symposium is partially endowed by the friends of Janet Meakin Poor, a Chicago-area conservationist and landscape designer dedicated to preserving natural habitats. The Center for Humans and Nature is sponsoring a limited number of scholarships for students. Call (847) 835-8261 for information or to register. Registration includes morning coffee break, lunch, parking and all symposium handouts.
