Improving Plant Health Through Organic Soil Care (P)
Homeowners and corporations are increasingly looking for ways to be environmentally friendly. Firms offering clients "green" landscape plant care fill that niche while improving overall plant health. A focus on soils is one effective approach, especially since most landscape concerns originate in the soil. Using organic components in soil care supports plant health naturally, while reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This session will give an overview of the components of healthy soils, with an emphasis on soil biology. Participants will gain an understanding of the benefits of enhancing soil biology through specialized soil testing and application of natural materials, including compost "teas" and humus-based amendments.
Part of a series of classes for landscape professionals presented by the Care of Trees.
