Joseph Regenstein, Jr. School of the Chicago Botanic GardenClass Schedule 2008 April Class Schedule: Jan > Feb > Mar > Apr > May > Jun > Jul > Aug > Sep > Oct > Nov > Dec THIS MONTH: The Coming Transformation: America and the Environmental Future. Despite the international agreements of the past two decades, efforts to protect the earth's environment are failing. Visionary environmentalist, dean, professor, and author Dr. James Gustave (Gus) Speth will explain why — then offer comprehensive, viable new strategies for dealing with environmental threats around the world. Thursday, April 10, 7 – 9 p.m., Alsdorf Auditorium. (FREE. Advance registration required.) FEATURED WORKSHOP: Willow Furniture Workshops with Bim Willow. Furniture crafted of bent willow is a form of early American folk art. Their simple yet elegant lines graced the front porches of America until the 1930s, when modern furniture moved in. Master furniture maker Bim Willow has resurrected this craft, and will share with you how to create your own piece of rustic willow art. Join him for this hands-on workshop and learn the basics of willowworking, and leave with a completed project. Students are required to bring a small hammer (8 oz. is best) and pruning shears. All other materials are supplied. Select from one of the projects listed below; sizes are estimated. Bring a sack lunch (the beverage will be provided). Saturday, April 26, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., McGinley Pavilion. (Cost varies w/project selected.) B = Beginner I = Intermediate A = Advanced P = Professional E = Everyone! |
