plant biology

Each day more plant species are lost to us forever. At the Chicago Botanic Garden, we are determined to save as many species as possible. Our more than 200 scientists are saving the world’s plants by making important discoveries about the most pressing threats to plant survival, including climate change, habitat loss and fragmentation, invasive species, over harvest and pollution. Their research improves our understanding of the biology of rare plants so we can conserve them more successfully and efficiently. The scientists are actively restoring rare plants into habitats where they have been lost, while also banking seeds to ensure their long-term conservation.

All life depends upon plants. The world’s plants are depending upon us.
