GLENCOE, IL (December 6, 2016) – The Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society raised $315,000 at its 11th annual All Aboard! gala on Friday, December 2, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. More than 350 guests enjoyed the event, ensuring that the Chicago Botanic Garden can continue to protect biodiversity, connect people with plants, and move forward with thriving research and programs that support the Garden’s mission.
Guests were greeted with hot toddies and music from members of the Alphorngruppe “Alpentraum” before entering the illuminated landscapes, stunning plant displays, garden-scale trains, and miniature replicas of Chicago landmarks in the Wonderland Express exhibition. A string quartet from the Civic Orchestra of Chicago played for guests as they mingled in Krehbiel Gallery.
In keeping with the theme “A European Holiday Soirée,” Kehoe Designs created dining rooms, including “Austria,” “Germany,” and “Switzerland.” Food For Thought Catering served festive, seasonal appetizers, and dinner to match the theme, including Bunder Gerstensuppe (barley and vegetable soup with dry aged beef and thyme), carved tenderloin of beef and Marzen braised beef stew with thyme spaetzle, rutabaga and carrot hash with pumpernickel streusel. The dessert station featured haselnussmakronen, almond baumkuchensitzen, spekulatius crème, pflaum kuchen, gingerbread cookies, and spaghettieis.
The 2016 All Aboard! party was co-chaired by Judy Konen of Kenilworth and Elizabeth Pruett of Lake Forest. Special thanks goes to members of the Alphorngruppe “Alpentraum” and members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, a signature program of the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Dupli-Group, Food For Thought, Kehoe Designs and our in-kind sponsors: Beam Suntory and Bonterra Organic Vineyards.
