GLENCOE, Ill. (February 18, 2015) – More than 285 guests came in from the cold to celebrate the opening of the Orchid Show on February 13. The Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society presented the preview evening, which was chaired by Louellen Murray of Lake Forest and Kim Visokey of Winnetka. More than $35,000 was raised toward “Growing the Future,” the Woman’s Board's $1 million pledge to the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Culinary Landscape prepared cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and the Chris Forte jazz ensemble provided the soundtrack for the evening in Nichols Hall. Guests were among the first to view the Orchid Show, which features 10,000 vibrant orchids and interpretation about one of the largest plant families in the world. Staff and artists featured in the show were available to answer questions. The menu of appetizers included shrimp and papaya salad, jambalaya, smoked chicken and waffles and mini sliders. Event Creative provided lounge furniture to add to the atmosphere.
Beam Suntory, Bonterra Organic Vineyards and Lagunitas Brewing Company generously donated the evening's spirits, wines and beers.
