Three Friends of Winter Bonsai Lecture
Bonsai Silhouette Show and Family Activites
January 30 & 31

The Chicago Botanic Garden's silhouette bonsai show featuring trees from its priceless Bonsai Collection. A silhouette show consists of deciduous bonsai trees in their dormant phase when the branching structure is highlighted. Each bonsai will be exhibited with an appropriate accent object such as suiseki, incense burner, statuary, or pottery. Family activities will include creating scrolls that can used for both decoration and to tell a story. Families can also enjoy traditional Japanese folktales and other winter stories from around the world.

 

Three Friends of Winter Bonsai Lectures
January 31 & 31

Ivan Watters, curator of the Garden's Bonsai Collection, will lecture on Saturday at 2 p.m., and Tim Priest will speak about the art of suiseki on Sunday at 2 p.m.

March 6 & 7

Members of the Seigyoku-kai Sogetsu Ikebana Society of Chicago demonstrate the Sogetsu School of Ikebana's flower-arranging techniques and answer visitors' questions.

 

Northern Illinois Gesneriad Society Show & Sale
March 13 & 14

The Northern Illinois Gesneriad Society holds its annual show and sale, featuring many exhibits of different types of gesneriads and an educational display including growing and propagation tips, and the sale of plants, cuttings, tubers, and rhizomes (prices range from $2 to $6).
