Research Experience for Undergraduates
Conservation and Land Management (CLM) Internship
TITLE: Intern, Display Gardens (three months; three positions available)
PURPOSE: Work closely with different horticulturists to maintain display gardens. Learn about general Chicago Botanic Garden operations by attending staff meetings and weekly intern meetings with guest speakers.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Horticulturists with routine maintenance including weeding, watering, mowing, planting, installing annual displays, deadheading, grooming perennials, labeling, mulching, and pruning. The intern will also work with other seasonal staff and volunteers while performing daily duties. Develop and present a ten-minute program on a gardening topic to the Horticulture Division at the end of the internship.
DEPARTMENT: Display Gardens
REPORTS TO: Senior Horticulturist
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Candidate should be available to work three months beginning in May. He or she must be enrolled in a college horticulture program or a related field with an interest in garden maintenance. The ideal candidate will be flexible, able to work in a fast-paced environment and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates within a year of their graduation date will also be considered. Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
