TITLE: INTERNSHIP, SCHOOL PROGRAMS

CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

PURPOSE: To gain experience and knowledge of botanic garden education programs with a special emphasis on plant-based learning for informal youth programs. The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is a specialized area of the Education Department that focuses on the development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs for school students, pre-K through 12th grade.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Facilitate school field trip programs on site.


2. Assist in the greeting of self-guided groups visiting the Garden.

3. Assist with the preparation of program materials.


4. Care for plant material.

5. Work on special assigned projects.

6. Other projects and duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Manager, School and Youth Programs

SUPERVISES: N/A


COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Other Center for Teaching and Learning program areas, Visitor programs, Horticulture, Custodial Services

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Available to work 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Monday through Friday, January - April. A combination of plant or environmental science knowledge and its application in informal education/museum settings. Comfortable teaching outdoors. Knowledge/familiarity with inquiry-based teaching methods. Experience working with students grades K-12. Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must work well with a diverse group people. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
