TITLE: Winter School Programs Internship (PreK – 12 Grade), Center for Teaching and Learning (unpaid) — FILLED

 

PURPOSE: To facilitate hands-on science field trips for grades K through 12. The intern will gain experience and knowledge of Chicago Botanic Garden education programs with a special emphasis on plant-based learning for informal youth programs. The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is a specialized area of the Education Department that focuses on the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs for school students, preK through grade 12.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
• Facilitate school field-trip programs on site.
• Assist in the greeting of self-guided groups visiting the Garden.
• Assist with the preparation of program materials.
• Care for plant material.
• Work on special assigned projects.
• Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: School Programs Coordinator

SUPERVISES: N/A

COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: Other Center for Teaching and Learning program areas, Visitor Programs, Horticulture, Custodial Services

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work at least one day a week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, January through March. Must have plant or environmental science knowledge and understand its application in informal education/museum settings. Must be comfortable teaching outdoors. Must have knowledge about/familiarity with inquiry-based teaching methods. Experience working with students grades K through 12 is required. Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must work well with a diverse group people. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
