2011 North Lawndale Farm Staff
Kelsey Miller is excited about having this experience interning at the North Lawndale site. She comes to GYF with a wheelbarrow load of conservation experience working in the woods of New Hampshire last year. Along with this experience, she brings awakened passions for working outside, teaching youth, and learning more about sustainable agriculture. When she’s not working outside she’s making anything under the sun from sock animals to yogurt cheese. Yum! |
Lauren Loomis, a summer intern with Green Youth Farm in North Lawndale, is passionate about healthy living, youth empowerment and sustainable urban agriculture. Lauren recently spent six months farming her way through New Zealand and Australia through an organization called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF). She is ecstatic to be working with Green Youth Farm and hopes to continue working with youth and urban agriculture in the future. In her spare time, Lauren loves to cook, read, paint and make homemade bread. |
Kevin Hovey, grower for North Lawndale farm for the second season, has worked as a horticultural assistant at Seed Saver's Exchange in Iowa, as an assistant farm manager in Northern California and attended workshops and seminars on sustainability around the Midwest and West coast. While serving on the board of directors for a social justice cooperative and doing horticultural consultation work around the city, he finds no greater joy than focusing on the youth at North Lawndale and sharing his expertise with the young people of Chicago. |
![]() Eric Herling is one of six Chicago Botanic Garden Stroger Interns. He will be starting his sophomore year at Eastern Illinois University this fall majoring in education.
