2012 North Chicago/Waukegan Farm Staff and volunteers
Heidi Joynt, coordinator, is in her fourth season at Green Youth Farm. Joynt works to educate youth about food systems, sustainable agriculture, and food justice issues. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies in 2005. Prior to working for the Chicago Botanic Garden, she spent the last two years working with homeless and at-risk youth teaching organic vegetable farming at Seattle Youth Garden Works. |
Andrea Kapustka, intern, will be going into her junior year at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in the fall. She will be studying at the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. She enjoys running, playing tennis, cycling, gardening, and being outdoors. |
Debra Warren, intern, graduated from Central Michigan University in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in dietetics. Originally from Michigan, she will be completing her dietetic internship in the fall through Michigan State University. She loves to dance, cook, and spend time at the beach. |
Chad Hagedorn, grower, is in his first season as grower at the North Chicago Green Youth Farm. Hagedorn hails from Denver, Colorado. There, he acted in various urban farming organizations including starting a one-acre farm at an elementary school. He enjoys watching and playing basketball, being outdoors, and spending time with his girlfriend, Wendy and newborn son, Solomon. |
Jesus Cuezzi, growing/marketing apprentice, is in his fourth season at Green Youth Farm. Cuezzi has served as a crew member, crew leader, and most recently as an apprentice. He is a 2010 graduate from Waukegan High School, and is currently attending classes at the College of Lake County. |
