North Chicago Green Youth Farm

Eric Avelandas

Eric is 18 years old and is in his first year at Green Youth Farm. When not helping at the farm, Eric prefers to be hanging out with his friends. His primary goal for the summer is to learn how to harvest the various crops we grow. His favorite veggie is the carrot.

Julio C. Cano-Mendoza

Julio is a student at Waukegan High School, and is 17 years old and in his first year in the program. He enjoys playing both drums and soccer in his free time and his favorite veggies are radishes and onions. This summer, Julio would like to improve his skills at growing vegetables.

Jesus Cuezzi

Jesus is 19 years old and in his second year in the program. Jesus is one of our four Crew Leaders. His favorite vegetable is the carrot and his passions include music, baseball (Cubs!), reading, and learning a third language. His goal for this summer is to be a guiding leader for his crew.

Wilmar Cuezzi

Wilmar is 18 years old and a rising senior at Waukegan High School. His favorite vegetables are carrots, onions, and potatoes. His hobbies are playing guitar and bass at his church and hanging out with his friends playing sports. This is Wilmar’s first year at GYF.

Terrence Fayne

Terrence is 17, attends Waukegan High School, and is in his first year at Green Youth Farm. In his free time, Terrence is interested in running, travel, and cars. His goal for the summer is to be able to tell his family how to grow their own garden.

Marina Garcia

Marina is 18 and recently graduated from Waukegan High School. This is her fourth year in the program and her second year as a Crew Leader. She likes carrots, writing poems, reading, movies, and hanging with her friends. Marina’s favorite activity on the farm is planting.

Julio Guzman

Julio is 17 and a student at Waukegan High School. His favorite veggie is swiss chard (with pesto) and he is in his third year in the program. Julio is a Crew Leader. He likes to bike, run, and spend time outside. Julio is a big fan of covering rows with Agribon.

Leonel Islas-Perez

Leo is 17 and a rising senior at Waukegan High School. In his free time, Leo is an avid fisherman and occasional paintballer. He is a fan of the writing of Edgar Allen Poe.

Shacara Jones

Shacara is a 16 year old student at Waukegan High School in her first year with GYF. By the end of the summer Shacara would like to start her own garden. Her main goal for the summer is to learn more about herself and others. Shacara would like to be a RN or pediatrician someday.

Kevin Martinez

Kevin is 16 years old and a first-timer at GYF. He plays on the varsity soccer team at Waukegan High School, and his favorite thing about working at GYF is the family atmosphere. He is interested in learning about natural growing methods so he can start a garden at his house.

Deidra McGlothin

Deidra is 18 and a student at Waukegan High School. This is Deidra’s first year at GYF and her favorite veggies are peppers. Her goal for the summer is to improve her public speaking, which should go a long way in helping accomplish her goal of becoming a lawyer someday.

Daisy Ochoa

Daisy is 17 and also a student at Waukegan High School. This is Daisy’s third year in the program and when not at the farm she likes to play soccer and hang out with her friends. She is interested in spreading the good word of organically grown veggies to her community. Daisy is a Crew Leader and Student Market Manager.

Rudy Ochoa

Rudy is 15 and another of our crew members who is a student at Waukegan high. His favorite veggie is carrots. Rudy’s favorite hobby is playing soccer and his preferred task while at the farm is planting seeds.

Joseph Rodriguez

Joey is 17 and attends Waukegan High School. Joey is a corn-eating machine. His favorite sport to play is basketball and his favorite activity at the farm is weeding.

Emma Spencer

Emma is 15 and a rising sophomore at Waukegan High School. Her hobbies are riding bikes, hiking, going to the beach, and hanging out with friends. Her favorite farm tasks are harvesting and working with the bees. Emma’s favorite veggie is cucumber.

Alejandro Vazquez

Alejandro is 17 years old and a rising senior at North Chicago High School. He is in his first year in the program and enjoys broccoli. His hobbies include playing basketball and working on cars. Alejandro’s favorite part of farm life is the daily teambuilders.

Marvin Warfield, Jr.

Marvin is 16 and also attends North Chicago High School. He is in his second year as a crew member and his favorite veggie is the sweet potato. Marvin’s favorite farm task is planting, and this summer he wants to learn how many varieties of tomato exist.

L’Quantis White

L’Quantis is 16 and attends Waukegan High School. This is her first year at GYF and she loves eating corn. Some of her hobbies are shopping, driving, and going to the park. L’Quantis enjoys using the hula hoe and her goal for the summer is to learn about her fellow crew members.

Nigel Williams

Nigel is 15 years old. He is a student at North Chicago High School. He likes to eat greens and peppers and is interested in learning about beekeeping and growing food. His favorite hobbies are playing football, running, and dancing.

Austin Wollmuth

Austin is 17 and a student at Waukegan High School. His favorite veggie is lettuce and he loves salad. This is Austin’s first year in the program and his favorite task thus far is harvesting. His goal for the summer is to learn all the varieties of vegetables on the farm.
