Guided Programs Grades 7 – 12

Guided Field Trip Programs 6-12

Monday through Friday, 10 – 11:30 a.m. (all programs are 90 minutes)
$120 per class
Maximum Number of Students: 30
A 1:10 ratio of chaperones to students is required.

Water Quality Field Study
Fall until 10/16 and Spring
Investigate what the organisms found in water can indicate about its health! Students will learn to identify organisms that indicate water quality, conducting a chemical assessment, and analyze what the results mean. Use the data students collect to compare to other waterways. Please prepare your students to be outdoors for the program.

Pre- and Post-Trip Activities

Biodiversity Field Study
Fall until 10/16 and Spring
Investigate the diversity of areas at the Garden. Students will learn to use systematic sampling techniques and observation skills to collect data about the plants present. By graphing and analyzing the data students will compare the species richness and diversity of two areas. Use the data students collect to compare to other plant communities. Please prepare your students to be outdoors for the program.

Photosynthesis Lab
Holiday and Early Spring
Students will explore photosynthesis, investigating how and where it takes place, how plants obtain the materials necessary for it to occur, and its products. Students will use scientific equipment to measure gas exchange of plants in the Greenhouses.

Outrageous Orchids: The Mighty Rainforest
Orchid Show
Step out of the classroom and into the rainforest! Students will take an in-depth look at rainforest plant adaptations and critically analyze the relationships between biotic and abiotic factors within the biome. Each student will pot a plant to take home. Admission to seasonal orchid show is included.
