Option 9 — Sustainable Eating

 

 

The 100-Mile Diet

Create a menu for a three-course meal with all items sourced from farmers within
100 miles of your home or school. 

Guidelines:

  • Menus should reflect the cultural heritage of the participating student(s).
  • For up to 100 bonus points (up to 300 points total for your entry), submit a video of a student preparing one of the items on the menu. Videos must be edited to ten minutes or less in length,
    and may be submitted in .wmv, .mov, or .mpg format.

All submissions must include:

  • A menu including one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert.
  • A list of all the main ingredients for the items on the menu.
  • A map identifying the names and locations of the farms providing each the main ingredients.
  • A list of three to five things the student(s) learned from the experience.
  • For bonus points: A CD/DVD including a video of the food preparation.

Entries due April 14, 2010
For individuals or groups
Maximum of 3 entries per school
Maximum of 200 points per entry plus 100 optional bonus points
