Option 4 — Musical Composition

 

 

Natural Rhythms

Write and perform an original song that communicates your thoughts, feelings, and perspectives on the relationship between humans and nature.

Premise: The complex and ever-changing relationship between humans and nature has been communicated through the artwork of diverse cultures throughout history and around the world. Options 2 through 5 challenge you to think critically about your personal relationship to nature, and then use photography, poetry, music, and comedy, to communicate how your actions and the actions of your peers reflect how modern society relates to nature.

Guidelines:

  • Songs must be four minutes or less in length and may be in any musical style.
  • Songs must include original lyrics and music.
  • Entries must be recorded and submitted in either audio (.wav, mp3, or .aiff) OR video (.wmv, .mov, or .mpg) format.
  • The top 10 submissions will be invited to perform at the Fairchild Challenge Eco-Concert on Saturday, April 17, 2010, from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Ravinia’s Bennett-Gordon Hall.
  • All songs must be performed either by the songwriter or peer musicians, all of whom must be enrolled in high school for the 2009-2010 school year.

All submissions must include:

  • A CD/DVD containing a recording of the song.
  • Typed lyrics including the name of the song, songwriter and school.

Entries due February 17, 2010
For individuals of Groups
Maximum of 3 entries per school
Maximum of 100 points per entry

LOGO: Ravinia Festival

Participants will perform in an Eco-Concert to be held
at Ravinia Festival (date TBD)
