Option 3 — Poetry Slam

Speak Green

Write and perform an original poem that communicates your thoughts, feelings, and perspectives on the relationship between humans and nature.

Premise: The complex and ever-changing relationship between humans and nature has been communicated through the artwork of diverse cultures throughout history and around the world. Options 2 through 5 challenge you to think critically about your personal relationship to nature, and then use photography, poetry, music, and comedy, to communicate how your actions and the actions of your peers reflect how modern society relates to nature.

Guidelines: Students must write an original poem and perform that poem in front of a live audience at the Fairchild Challenge Eco-Poetry Slam on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

All submissions must include:

  • A cover page listing the name of the poet, school, and poem.
  • An original poem (performance length must be three minutes or less).
  • A bibliography including three creative works (including the title and author) that the student found inspirational and why.
