Explore the Garden

Gather in the Woods this Spring.

Join us in our new timber and stone shelter built just inside the entrance to the woodland nature trail, a place for hikers, visitors and groups to gather. As you start your trip to explore the Garden’s native woodlands, you can come inside and see what a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) structure from the 1930s looked like.

PHOTO: the new timber and stone shelter in the McDonald Woods.Deeper in McDonald Woods, you’ll discover a new council ring, 30 feet across, that will serve as an outdoor classroom for school groups and others. In this welcoming place, you’ll learn more about woodland ecology and restoration, and the important steps the Garden is taking to return the Woods to a natural state. With great success, the Garden’s woodland ecologist and volunteers have cleared out thousands of invasive plants, creating the space needed for native plants to resurge.
