Thursday, September 1
6 – 8 p.m.
The combined talents of Americana music icons Barb Silverman, Rick Veras, Steve Rosen, and Mitch Straeffer bridge our country’s vast musical history with fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass, and washboard. These musicians collectively have performed around the world from Finland to Australia, in prominent festivals and radio shows, and in the highest profile venues in metropolitan Chicago. Playing patriotic songs and more, the Silver Stars capture the character of the earliest American fiddle tunes through the hits of Stephen Foster and Irving Berlin and on into the last century of indigenous music. Dances will include contra lines of George Washington’s day, the high-stepping strut of the 1850s Cake Walk, and the squares and circles that survived hundreds of years of our history.
