Gijsbert Kok studied organ, church music, and improvisation at the Hague Royal Conservatory and music theory at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. He studied the carillon at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort and has won prizes in several carillon contests.

At present, he is the city carillonneur of the Hague, Voorschoten, and Zoetermeer. He teaches carillon at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort and music theory at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. He also is active as a church organist in the Domkerk in De Lier and the American Protestant Church of the Hague. As a recitalist, he performs regularly on the carillon as well as on the organ. Several of his arrangements for carillon appear in print from Dutch publishers.
