Sponsored by the Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society, this event offers plants that are particularly well suited to the Chicago area, reviewed by the Garden’s director, Kris Jarantoski, and a team of Garden horticulturists for their ability to perform well in local growing conditions. The sale includes more than 25,000 annuals, ferns, fruit and vegetable plants, geraniums, herbs, native wildflowers, ornamental grasses, perennials, roses, shade perennials, shrubs, and vines.
“Ninety percent of the plants we offer are locally grown. These old standbys and new introductions know our soil and climate,” said Mary Hill, president of the Woman’s Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society.
New to the sale this year are many plants that will be sold directly by vendors that the Garden has worked with over the years. They will be joining other vendors at the Festival who will be selling baked goods, fresh honey, pottery, mushrooms, and much more. Don’t forget to bring your gardening tools to be sharpened so they’re ready to use in planting all your Bloomin’ Festival purchases!
