Discovery Programs enable visitors to explore a variety of gardening topics with volunteers in an informal setting. The programs spark curiosity and increase knowledge through one-on-one conversations, demonstrations, discovery carts, mini tours and activities for all ages.
Winter programs are offered Saturdays and Sundays from January 24 through March 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Regenstein Center Greenhouses.
Spring-summer-fall programs are Wednesday through Sunday, from May 13 through October 4. Times are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Regenstein Center Greenhouses
There's an abundance of fascinating plants in the Greenhouses, including those used in foods such as chocolate, coffee, and macaroni and cheese. Everyone will enjoy the variety of plants and climates; children will also have fun playing Greenhouse Eye Spy with cards obtained from volunteers in the arid and tropical greenhouses.
English Walled Garden
Discover the diversity of plants, spaces, and features in the distinct "rooms" in the English Walled Garden. Throughout the season, volunteers enjoy pointing this Garden's signature plants out to visitors.
Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden
The Fruit & Vegetable Garden Discovery Program features discovery carts, hands-on experiences, handouts, gardening tips, and informal interpretation of the garden itself, packed with all sorts of fruits, vegetables, and herbs in various stages of their growth cycles. Let the volunteers inspire you with ideas for gardening at home. Through September, take home a plant giveway representing varieties grown at the Fruit & Vegetable Garden (changes monthly).
Elizabeth Hubert Malott Japanese Garden
Stroll the islands of the Japanese Garden, where you can encounter volunteers raking patterns in the dry gardens or comparing eastern- and western-style gardens. Discover the history of the Shoin House as you linger in the moss garden.
