California’s wildflowers are well known for their extraordinary bloom and diversity. Laird Blackwell, an educator, recognized authority on biology, author, and photographer, expertly directs the reader to blooming wildflowers around the state. He suggests what to see, when, and where to see them in 300 locations in 10 geographical regions. There are two maps with locations of special wildflower places; these are keyed to descriptions of sites and featured flowers. Blackwell provides driving and walking directions, descriptions of sites, and additional data for the hiker. A directory lists plants by their month of bloom, and then by their common and scientific nomenclature; the description then tells where they may be found. This is a practical, handy, pocket–sized field guide with 650 photographs to assist the plant explorer.
