Jimmy Durante's tagline "Everybody wants to get into the act" would describe the reason for creating this pleasant volume, which breaks no new ground. The author, an herb grower of long experience, is an uncritical enthusiast for herbal remedies of human ills. She briefly dismisses what little knowledge of recent scientific studies she seems to have. There is lots of good gardening advice and culinary counsel in this volume. Emphasis throughout is on growing in the Northwest (hence the title); gardeners in the Midwest and elsewhere already have a surfeit of good books on herb growing, which they will probably find more useful.
