New Kitchen Garden is an introduction to the growing of fruits and vegetables, as well as a cookbook. It is particularly strong on design ideas, whether for a French-style potager or container gardening. Gorgeous photography shows not only the plants themselves but details on how to plant, prune and harvest them. Author Adam Caplin provides information on a wide variety of herbs, vegetables and fruits. The only flaw for the American reader is that this British book doesn’t distinguish which plants will grow in which climate and soil conditions. The vegetarian recipes cover all courses, from appetizers and soups through main courses and side dishes to desserts.
