After touring Italian gardens for the past two decades, author Helena Attlee has selected gardens that she found most endearing during her journeys. This is an incredible record of these landscapes, due to the friendships she made with garden owners, landscape architects, and gardening staff who shared their knowledge of these private estates in intimate conversations with her. The photographs by Alex Ramsay closely illustrate their beauty, as described in the text. The author has selected private gardens on sites throughout Italy, including that of the prominent landscape architect, Paolo Pejrone, founding member of the Italian Association of Landscape Architecture. Although many of the gardens in other publications tend to have a poignant historical past, she has purposely chosen contemporary gardens that have a “vibrant present and a real future as well as an interesting past.”
