Unlike his earlier works on the same subject, such as Manual of Woody Landscape Plants—a handy text for students, professionals, and homeowners—this encyclopedia’s size, prodigious weight, and cost may limit general interest. Readers will discover that it is a collection of information without the depth of previous efforts. The introduction to the book does not appear relevant; indeed, the author promotes his partnership in a new plant nursery. The book has attractive and accurate color photographs of plants, a redeeming feature to this ponderous volume.
