The back cover of this book states that it is “the definitive practical reference on identification, care, and cultivation with a directory of 400 varieties and 700 photographs.” A little intimidating to the novice perhaps, but who would not be intrigued by the tremendous variety of these plants. This work serves as a very easy guide with an introduction explaining all you need to know about cacti and succulents, followed by “Design ideas” for these amazing plants. There are plant directories for cacti and succulents, illustrated with a beautiful photograph of each plant plus details on natural habitat and a key with growing symbols. Anderson and consultant Terry Hewitt, both avid collectors and experts on these plants, have provided easily accessible information for the beginner to start exploring these hardy, fascinating plants. Peter Anderson’s colorful photographs make identification simple.
