Reminiscent of mid-19th century photography, Tom Baril's photographs in Botanica reveal Aster, Gloxinia, Sedum, Zinnia and others in ways you have never imagined. Sixty reproductions of plates are included in this volume, created between 1995 and 1998. The large format of the book, the quality of the reproductions and the high quality of printing all do justice to these images, which you will repeatedly turn to. It is not surprising that Baril handled the printing of Robert Mapplethorpe's black-and-white work nor that his photographs are included in a number of public and private collections. If you cannot afford the limited edition, which includes a platinum print by Mr. Baril, you will certainly want a copy of this wonderful book, to help you think about Brugmansia, Dahlia, Hollyhock and others in a whole different light.
