The Big Book of Kitchen Gardens
cloth, 336 p., $27.95
All you really need to know to plan, plant, grow, care for and harvest herbs and vegetables, plus many healthy recipes for the nutrition conscious, are found in this handsome, colorful and well-designed book. Plant selection tends toward hybrids, and heirloom varieties are seldom mentioned and not explained, but the advice is uniformly sound. This is definitely a book worth having, although bibliophiles will cavil at the lack of a traditional title page and colophon.
