The Berry Grower's Companion, by Barbara J. Bowling, is a wonderful "berry grower's bible" for the serious backyard grower. The author covers grapes, brambles, blueberries, strawberries and minor fruiting crops. For each genus, the book discusses varieties, planting, pruning, nutrition and fertilization. Even weeds and insects are discussed!

I especially liked the chapter on grapes. Wine grapes and juice grapes are separated into two charts listing many cultivars, followed by grape color, hardiness and harvest season. The drawings and descriptions of the various systems of pruning grapes are thorough and easy to follow.

Ms. Bowling also has included beautiful pictures and detailed drawings of how certain plants grow and are trained. This is a must for any serious berry grower. You won't need any other book!
