The Rose. |
A bargain-priced coffee-table book, The Rose attempts to be more than decoration. It opens with a two-page introduction on the history of the rose by Anne Halpin. More than 100 photographs follow, each with a facing page of poetry inspired by a rose. Authors of the text range from William Shakespeare to Robert Frost, with a few surprises along the way (Ethelind Fearon, for example). At the back of the book is an inventory of the varieties of rose featured in the book. Overall, for any rose enthusiast, this book will be a necessity as a romantic view of one of the most inspiring of all flowers.
